Marrakech

Morocco-29

Marrakech is sensory overload – in the best way!  As you approach the souks through the square you are met with every smell you can imagine, people as far as your eye can see and everything from Monkeys to Cobra snakes being draped around tourists shoulders!

As you dive into the alleys of the souks it feels impossible to take in everything going on  around you!  Vendors are pushing their particular wares and each stall is overflowing with goods.

We took a day trip into a nearby Berber Village.  Driving through the countryside outside of the main city of Marrakech was quite beautiful!  Once in the village we took a short hike to a waterfall and enjoyed lunch along the river.  The whole setting of the river was so different.  Lined with couches and chairs, this is where locals come with their family for the day to cool off and relax with a swim.

Accommodations: Riad Dar Fakir   Excellent, reasonably priced Riad with a terrific location.  Some Riads are much more luxurious, especially if you stay outside the main square of the city, but we chose to be right in the middle of everything.  The staff was fantastic and the rooms were very comfortable.

Dinner:   Dar Yacout  Quite possibly the most romantic restaurant we have ever been to.  We began with drinks on their rooftop before we were whisked down below for dinner.  Request a table right on the pool!  It is also helpful to take a taxi or at least ask for help along the way if walking.  This beautiful restaurant is tucked down a tiny alley behind an unmarked door.  Near impossible to find on your own!
