Crete

Greece-53

I wish I could say we explored Crete since there is SO much to see there.  However, our hotel was too lovely, the lounge chairs too comfortable and the sun too relaxing.

We had decided not to rent a car (which you really need on Crete) and were a little stranded with where our hotel was located.  There were some places you were able to walk to – a small town, a desolate peninsula and an amazing fish restaurant where we enjoyed dinner one night.  We decided since we only had a couple days on the island and couldn’t really make a dent we would just take it easy and enjoy what the hotel had to offer…such as jet skiing, snorkeling and beachside drinks.  Sometimes we find that we return from “vacation” more exhausted than when we left…this was not a problem here.

Getting There:  As we were in Santorini first we took a catamaran to Crete.  I get very seasick but this boat moved fast and I felt fine.  From the docks we used a car transfer, which took approximately 1 hour.

Accommodations: Elounda Mare was beautiful and kind of a “honeymoon” hotel.  Beautiful rooms and you never felt like you needed to leave if you didn’t want to!

Favorite Restaurant: Kanali Restaurant is one of the best and most memorable fish dinners I have ever had.  Located right on the water,  you watch the fisherman bring their boats in with the evening catch and unload nets of fish for the restaurant to serve.  They are rinsed and then carried around to the table so you can choose your particular fish and in certain instances, they will prepare it in front of you.  The owners and staff of this restaurant were wonderful and interesting to talk to…so proud of their Greek heritage and food.
