Azores Islands

The Azores Islands are located off the coast of Portugal and offer miles of green rolling hills, separated by man made rock walls.  There are plenty of outdoor activities and things to explore on these little beauties!  The islands seem quite unspoiled by tourists and have a very authentic feel to them.

Getting There:  This is tricky…and time consuming!  From London a plane change is required – Lisbon being the easiest place.

Accommodations:  On Terceira we stayed at the Angra Garden Hotel.  It is located in the center of town right on the main square, which has a great little cafe that stays open late.  It was nice to have coffee in the morning there and a nightcap to end each night!  The rooms were a bit run down but clean.  It is a hotel in need of an update but the location can’t be beat.  On Sao Miguel we stayed at Hotel Atlantico and the room with an ocean view is worth the splurge!  This hotel was recently re-done and was very comfortable to stay in.

Favorite Restaurants:  Terceira – Beira Mar there are TWO of these.  Do not go to Hotel Beira Mar Restaurant, as this was some of the WORST fish and service of the trip.  Drive up the coast a bit for the real one.  It was unbelievable – food and staff.  In Sao Miguel Restaurante Sao Pedro did not disappoint!  The food in Sao Miguel was hit or miss…this place redeemed it for us.
